As Star Wars fever continues in theaters, there was one character who was missing from the Rise of the Skywalker, Jar Jar Binks. With his remarkable imagination, George Lucas created Jar Jar Binks and any other Star Wars creatures. Pangolins, which are wild creatures that are native to Asia and Africa, will become endangered if the poaching does not end. These mammals, that resemble Jar Jar Binks, have scaly skin just like Jar Jar. Since they are bipedal, they can walk on their hind legs. Yes they are like Gungans.
Pangolins are fascinating mammals that have large protective keratin scales. When they are in danger, they will roll up into a ball and use their scales as a shield. They are insectivorous and use their long tongue to catch insects. Since these nocturnal creatures have poor vision, they depend on their sense of sell and hearing. They are good swimmers.
Since they are solitary, they only socialize when they mate. Even though these peaceful creatures stay away from humans they are the most trafficked animals in the world. They are killed for their meat and scales. Some Chinese people believe that their scales have medicinal attributes. In reality, pangolins are senselessly killed because their scales do not cure any diseases
Sadly, there are 100,000 pangolins that are killed every year. Due to the massive poaching, they are on the Red List of Threatened Species. If the poaching continues, pangolins will become extinct. In 2017 Jackie Chan became an animal advocate to save pangolins and dispel them myths about these mysterious creatures. There are any sites on social media dedicated to saving these creatures, such as @Save Pangolins that inform the general public
Jar Jar Binks is a fictional character but pangolins are real. As animal advocates, we should do all we can to save them before it is too late. May the force be with pangolins now and always!
