Never Trump supporters have a candidate who is ready to run as an independent and take the fight to Donald Trump. The anti-trump independent candidate is former CIA operative Evan McMullin. McMullin’s independent campaign shows that the NeverTrump movement is still alive.
Along with time at the CIA, McMullin served as chief policy director for House Republicans. McMullin has been vocal about his opposition to Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. “Better For America” political group backs McMullin and fights to get on the ballot in as many states as possible. McMullin is from Utah, which is a key state that Trump is facing low polling numbers. McMullin released a statement explaining his decision to run.
With the stakes so high for our nation and at this late stage in the process, I can no longer stand on the sidelines,” “Our country needs leaders who are in it for the right reasons and who actually understand what makes this country the greatest on earth. Leaders who will unite us and guide us to a prosperous, secure future, beyond the dysfunction of a broken political system.”
McMullin’s campaign shows that the “Never Trump” movement is still alive and working to stop Trump. Long-shot candidate McMullin continues to criticize Trump on social media for his “doom and gloom” messaging.
McMullin still has the opportunity to get his name on the ballot but faces a deadline that is fast approaching. To get on the ballot in three states he needs to collect more than 5,000 signatures in each state.
Opponents of the “Never Trump” movement see the candidacy just an opportunity for those critical of Trump to vent their anger while acting like they are doing some good for the Republican party. McMullin’s time as policy director for the House Republicans could gain support from those who are worried about Trump’s lack of political experience.
